What Is a Winery Crush Pad?

If you’ve been around wineries long enough, you’ve probably heard the term “crush pad” at some point. A critical but easily overlooked part of the winery, the crush pad is where the winery meets the vineyard and the process of turning grapes into wine begins. If the term conjures up a mental image of grapes being crushed into juice and pulp, you’re on the right track. Thanks to the evolution of winemaking technology, however, a crush pad is now simply the area where harvested grapes are processed—we don’t actually crush them anymore.

Soaring to New Heights: 2Hawk Featured in Southern Oregon Wine Scene

We are excited to be getting such great press lately! Take a look at this feature story in the Fall/Winter 2016–2017 edition of the Southern Oregon Wine Scene. Ross and I love the picture of us on our horses. This was taken before the new winery was completed. Done in record time, the new winery opened in September, just in time to process its first harvest. Can’t wait to see what Kiley does with the wines!
