We’re thrilled to be releasing four stellar wines to our wine club members this fall, including two Darow Series wines. Our reserve tier, Darow Series wines are named in homage to the silty clay loam that is found throughout most of the blocks in our vineyard. Sublime wine, after all, begins in the soil, as evidenced by our new releases: 2018 Darow Series Tempranillo, 2019 Darow Series Chardonnay, 2019 Grenache, and 2020 Viognier.
2Hawk Fall 2021 Releases
2018 Darow Series Tempranillo
Originating from our oldest planting of Tempranillo, these mature and carefully tended vines yielded exquisite fruit in 2018. Fermented with indigenous vineyard yeast, this wine was slowly and carefully aged in a blend of proprietary French oak casks. The result is a wine rich with aromas of blackberry and black currant, along with earthier notes of fig and tobacco. This gives way to dark berry, black cherry, chocolate, and subtle leathery flavors on the palate underpinned by a generous, ripe tannin structure. Balanced and elegant, this wine can easily be cellared for an additional six to nine years, with enjoyment from now through 2035.
2019 Darow Series Chardonnay
Our 2019 Darow Series Chardonnay speaks to the value of patience and diligence in the winery. This wine continued to mature and develop for an unusually long 13 months in the barrel. Allowing this wine to age at its own pace has rewarded us with a beautifully rich and effusive wine that announces its varietal character upon opening. Pineapple, brioche, crème brûlée, and toasted macadamia nuts on the nose mingle with intense flavors of preserved lemon, ripe honeycrisp apple, and wet stone on the palate. The intense tropical and citrus fruit notes on the finish are buoyed by lively acidity, hinting at the wine’s cellaring potential. This wine is delicious now and best enjoyed through 2027.
2019 Grenache
Our vineyard’s microclimate is the perfect fit for Grenache, and it clearly shows in our 2019 vintage. A cool and early fall allowed our Grenache to slowly ripen to perfection, mirroring the complexity typically seen in the best Old World examples. Co-fermented with 19% Syrah, this wine features notes of pure candied cherry, ripe strawberry, dried herbs, and delicate perfume accompanied by a flinty, spicy, umami quality originating from the cobbled stones located in that section of the block. A refined, sophisticated expression of the variety and vintage is evident on the palate, allowing the flavors to unfold gracefully as Grenache’s hallmark minerality sustains the long finish. Ready now, this wine is best enjoyed through 2025.
2020 Viognier
Another testament to our vineyard’s remarkable microclimate, our 2020 Viognier expresses the ripe, elegant, and perfumed fruit from our vineyard. We find Viognier all but makes itself, with minimal guidance needed on our part. This held especially true in 2020, which resulted in a balanced, nuanced, complex representation of the vineyard. Combining multiple harvests at different ripeness levels resulted in a magnificent layering of flavors and aromas, with stone fruit and thyme from the early fruit; mango and apricot from the middle; and intense rose petal and clover honey from the late. This wine is ready to enjoy now, but it will definitely benefit from a little more time in the cellar. Enjoy now through 2025.

Each tasting will include a flight of our new releases custom-paired with small bites prepared by guest chef Bill Prahl.
